Schloss Monbijou – A Digital Tribute to Architectural Legacy

A digital tribute to the architectural and cultural heritage that once stood proudly within walking distance of our studio.

Nestled in the heart of our vibrant neighborhood, the historic Monbijou Castle stands as a testament to the rich architectural heritage that once graced Berlin.

This digital resurrection brings to life the castle’s exquisite Rococo and late-Baroque styles, which were the epitome of grandeur in their time.

Monbijou Castle, originally built in 1706, served various functions over the centuries. It was a rural estate, a pleasure house, and later became the summer residence of Prussian royalty.

The castle also hosted notable guests like tsar Peter the Great and was a place where the arts flourished, with its gardens and halls often filled with the sounds of music and the laughter of courtiers

Schloss Monbijou – Rediscovering Berlin's Lost Architectural Heritage

Offering a glimpse into the splendor that once was

The original Monbijou Castle, completed in 1706, was a marvel of its era, designed by the renowned architect Eosander von Göthe. Its intricate details and ornamental gardens were a sight to behold, reflecting the opulence of the Rococo movement with its playful and elaborate artistry.

The late-Baroque elements added a sense of drama and movement, with bold structures and lavish decorations that captivated all who visited.

Sadly, the castle was heavily damaged during World War II and eventually razed in 1959. However, its memory lives on through our CGI reconstruction, allowing us to wander its halls and gardens once more.

This project, motivated by the castle’s proximity and significance to our community, serves as a bridge between the past and present, inviting us to explore and appreciate the diverse architectural styles that defined our cultural landscape.
